Job Overview:
As the Technical Product Manager for RailConnect, you will own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of key modules within the RailConnect web and mobile ecosystem. You will partner closely with engineering, UX, architecture, customer success, and business teams to deliver features that enhance operational efficiency for rail customers. Your responsibilities include defining product requirements, managing backlogs, prioritizing features, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality releases across both web and mobile channels.
 
 
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will act as the owner of one or more product areas, driving vision, strategy, and execution for enterprise-grade software solutions within Wabtec. You will work closely with engineering, UX, data, business, and customer teams to define product requirements, manage prioritization, create detailed roadmaps, and guide the product lifecycle from concept to launch.
You will be responsible for translating business problems into clear product capabilities and ensuring high-quality product delivery in fast-paced, agile environments.
The Technical Product Manager is responsible for full lifecycle product ownership—from discovery through delivery—for RailConnect capabilities.
 
In this role, the TPM shall utilize his/her experience and expertise to:
• Partner with Support and Product SMEs to learn complex use case scenarios and system workflows to drive QA testing effectively for one or more products
• Drive product discovery and translate customer needs into product requirements and user stories.
• Translate user needs of rail operators into clear, detailed product requirements for web and mobile applications.
• Own and maintain the product roadmap for assigned modules and communicate vision to stakeholders.
• Collaborate daily with engineering teams to ensure technically feasible and scalable designs aligned with RailConnect architecture.
• Conduct product discovery through customer interviews, workflow analysis, field feedback, and data insights.
• Manage the product backlog, prioritize features based on customer impact, operational efficiency, and strategic business goals.
• Work with UX teams to design intuitive, responsive interfaces optimized for web and mobile usage.
• Drive feature elaboration, acceptance criteria, user stories, and release planning.
• Partner with customer support to analyze issues, identify root causes, and prioritize enhancements or fixes.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration—whiteboarding, design reviews, and sprint ceremonies.
• Champion product performance, uptime, and usability metrics; ensure measurable improvements.
• Lead PoCs and innovation initiatives for predictive analytics, mobility enhancements, or workflow automation.
• Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and industry standards used by transport and freight operators.
• Supporting defect triage and sprint quality processes
• Driving improvements in product quality metrics (test coverage, defect leakage, field issues)
• Ensure high-quality product releases through clear acceptance criteria, test planning, and stakeholder validation.
• Develop, document and execute maintainable test cases for functional, regression and integration testing  
 
Qualification/ Requirement:
• Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Electronics, IT) or related technical fields.
• 6 to 10 years of total experience, with at least 3+ years in Product Management or Technical Product/Program roles.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), cloud platforms, APIs, and microservices.
• Experience with enterprise B2B or operational workflow products (transport, logistics, mobility preferred). 
Essential Skills:
• Ability to write highly detailed product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret operational data, field insights, and convert them into product improvements.
• Comfort with modern SaaS technologies, REST APIs, event-driven systems, notifications, offline capabilities, etc.
• Hands-on experience with agile tools: Rally, Confluence, Git/GitLab.
• Strong technical understanding to collaborate with architects and development teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across business, engineering, and customers.
• Ability to support secure development lifecycle practices and quality processes.
• In-depth knowledge of quality engineering and testing methodologies
• Experienced in developing and executing test strategies, test plans and test cases
• Ability to learn fast and quickly diagnose potential software system issues 
 
Desired Skills:
• Understanding of mobile UX patterns, GPS/location-based workflows, and responsive design standards.
• Familiarity with AWS architecture, microservices deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with telemetry dashboards, KPIs, and release health monitoring.
• Ability to drive cross-module initiatives such as modernization, platform migration, or UI/UX redesign.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in complex technical environments.
• Experience with rail, logistics, asset management, or domain-heavy operational systems.
• Having experience on tech migration from one technology to another as part of tech stack upgrades to cater needs of product with evolving technologies.
• Experienced on developing, deploying, and managing – microservices on cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Someone who can advocate security in development of lifecycle and take measures to improve that.
• Be a gatekeep to manage the branching strategy for the product on GitLab and work with DevOps to improve productivity. 
Good to have:
• Working knowledge of API-first or platform products.
• Exposure to AI/ML-powered features such as anomaly detection or predictive maintenance.
• Prior experience supporting global enterprise customers and multi-region SaaS deployments.
• App Store Knowledge: Experience with submission and compliance requirements for Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Microsoft Store
• Native Development: Understanding of platform-specific capabilities and limitations
• Security: Understanding mobile application security best practices
