About the Role

Waymo is seeking a Backend Developer to join our team and contribute to building the Waymo Driver, the world's most experienced driver. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs using C++.

Key Responsibilities

→Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services and APIs primarily using C++.
→Build and optimize the data pipelines and infrastructure that power Waymo's critical event triage and analysis platforms
→Collaborate closely with front-end engineers, Product Managers, and other engineering teams to define APIs, data models, and system architecture.
→Contribute to system design, architectural decisions, and best practices for backend development within the team.
→Integrate with AI/ML platforms and infrastructure to power intelligent product experiences.
→Monitor, debug, and optimize the performance and reliability of backend systems.

Requirements

✓Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
✓5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
✓Proficiency in C++ and experience with building production-grade services.
✓Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and best practices.
✓Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead technical discussions.
