Staff Software Engineer, ML Systems at Waymo

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff-level engineer to serve as the strategic bridge between our Machine Learning Product teams and our Core Infrastructure at Waymo. This role focuses on owning multiple Product teams’ ML Systems, covering Efficiency and Reliability, for our core machine learning pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• →Partner with Core Infrastructure teams to influence the roadmap for compute, storage, and scheduling
• →Serve as the technical escalation point for production blockers and troubleshoot complex failures
• →Profile and optimize end-to-end pipelines, identifying bottlenecks in data loading
• →Build robust CLI tools and middleware to improve the "inner loop" of ML development
• →Write the necessary shims and wrappers to integrate new Core Infra features into the ML stack
