Funny name, serious business
We are a leading eco-friendly household essentials business and we donate 50% of our profits to help everyone gain access to clean water and a toilet. As of June 2024, we’ve contributed over $18 million AUD to this mission. Basically, we’re really good at making it easy to do good.
We operate scaling businesses the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Our amazing team is based in Australia, the UK, the Philippines, China, and the US. Our 250+ people aim to make the biggest possible impact for people and the planet. Over the next 5-10 years, we’re hoping to increase our annual donation tenfold to get us closer to our dream of everyone in the world having access to clean water and sanitation services.
A bit about the role
We’re evolving. Historically, we’ve leaned on external partners to care for our security stack, but we’ve realized that to truly flourish, we need to bring that brilliance home. We aren't a traditional software company, so we don't need overly complex infrastructure; instead, we’re looking for a Cloud Security Engineer to help us refine our environment—pruning back the excess to curate a security space that is purpose-led, repeatable, and reliable.
Reporting to our Cyber Security Lead, Mitch, you’ll be the technical heartbeat of our security systems across cloud, identity, devices, and SaaS. This isn’t a passive "watch the dashboard" role; it’s a foundational, creative position. You’ll translate security intent into a smooth operational reality, ensuring our controls work beautifully at scale with clarity and predictability. You’ll have the freedom to help design, shape, and leave a lasting legacy on how this team operates for years to come.
If you worked here this past month here are some things you might have been involved in
Creating Sustainable Patterns: You reviewed and evolved our Infrastructure-as-Code strategy, ensuring our security controls are consistently and elegantly applied through code.
Harmonizing Systems: You reviewed our device management platforms to ensure they integrate seamlessly with our identity and data protection guardrails.
Restoring Calm: Instead of just reacting to alerts, you tuned a detection process to resolve a recurring root cause, making our system hygiene measurably healthier.
Empowering the Team: You authored a set of clear, supportive runbooks that allowed our Systems Operations Engineers to execute security tasks confidently and independently.
Collaborative Design: You partnered with Jeff (our Senior Cloud Engineer) to bridge the gap between security intent and cloud platform architecture.
Let’s talk about you
You’re a creator, not just a monitor
You may have a background in Security Operations (SOC) or Engineering, but you’ve reached a point where you’re looking for more than just ticket response. You’re the type of person who sees a noisy alert and feels the spark to dive in and resolve the root cause permanently. You are "tool-agnostic" and value technical intent and system maturity over a list of certifications.
You thrive when shaping the "Gray Space"
You enjoy the freedom of taking the lead on designing technical guardrails in a modern, cloud-first environment. You’re looking for a "high-leverage" role where your documentation and automation enable an entire team to move forward with confidence and security.
You’re a community builder and force multiplier
You believe that security is only as strong as the knowledge shared with the team. You take pride in externalizing your expertise through clear standards, creating systems and playbooks so reliable that they empower others to succeed without needing your direct intervention.
You give a crap
Do you want your work to make the world a better place? Do you want to work with other people who feel the same way? What a coincidence — us too!
Why should you work with us?
First off, as a certified B Corp™, we work to make a difference every day while maintaining the highest standards of social and environmental impact. With our most recent score of 125.5 we’re in very good company with other exceptional B Corps around the world.
We also believe that helping to make the world a better place should be rewarded accordingly – that’s why we offer competitive, market informed salaries, meaningful support towards healthcare for our team around the world, generous paid leave, tailored learning and development opportunities, and free toilet paper (yes, you read that right).
Our engagement surveys (thanks Culture Amp!) tell us that our team is really proud (95%) to work for Who Gives A Crap and, well, we couldn’t be more proud of that.
Have you made it this far?
If you’re still reading, we think there’s a strong chance you might be our kind of person. Here’s the thing, though — research suggests that 60% of women and underrepresented folks might have already talked themselves out of applying. Even if you don’t check every box above, we want to encourage you to introduce yourself. We believe a diversity of perspectives and experiences makes a team stronger — and the stronger our team, the closer we are to delivering toilets and clean water for all.
