ABOUT THE ROLE
- You’ll lead a small product engineering team (usually 5 to 6 engineers) and own delivery from idea to launch to reliability. You’ll keep the bar high for quality, speed, and customer impact.
- This is a hands-on Engineering Manager role. You’ll start by learning the product and codebase, shipping small features, and then ramp into full-time team leadership.
- You’ll focus on building durable systems and habits: clear ownership, clean interfaces, strong quality, and steady improvements to how the team ships and operates.
ABOUT THE TEAM
- This role is for our Account Opening team. We build end-to-end account opening experiences that help Clutch’s clients onboard their customers smoothly and safely.
- Managers at Clutch stay close to the work. You’ll pair with engineers, review code, unblock delivery, and help the team build good habits.
- We’re actively adopting AI tools in how we plan, build, test, review, and operate software. We want someone who can help us do this in a real, practical way.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU WILL:
- Learn the product deeply: client needs, account opening flows, success metrics, and where we feel pain in delivery and reliability.
- Ship a set of small, scoped features or improvements to build context and trust with the team (and to learn how we work end-to-end).
- Map the current SDLC (software development life cycle): how work moves from idea to PR to release to support. Identify the top 3 bottlenecks and start fixing them.
- Propose and start rolling out one AI-assisted workflow improvement (example areas: PR review, test generation, release notes, incident follow-ups, support triage), with a clear success measure.
WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU WILL:
- Run the team’s planning and execution rhythm: clear goals, predictable delivery, and fewer surprises. Improve estimation and sizing so plans match reality.
- Expand AI adoption from “tools people try” into “workflows we rely on”: create or tailor internal AI helpers, measure impact, and document how to use them.
- Coach and grow engineers through frequent feedback, clear expectations, and practical support in day-to-day work.
WITHIN 9 MONTHS, YOU WILL:
- Own outcomes for your area: delivery, reliability, and the product results tied to your team’s work.
- Build a durable team system: onboarding, docs, standards, and repeatable ways of working that scale as the team grows.
- Deliver at least one larger project end-to-end by breaking it into milestones, managing tradeoffs, and keeping stakeholders aligned.
- Make continuous improvement a team habit: a steady pipeline of cleanups, tech debt reduction, and tooling upgrades that reduce friction over time.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Hands-on engineering leadership: 10+ years working as a Software Engineer, including at least 4 years in an Engineering Manager role.
- Strong execution: you can turn fuzzy goals into a plan, keep scope under control, and ship reliably with a small team.
- AI workflow builder mindset: experience creating or adapting AI tools into real engineering workflows (not only using ChatGPT). Examples: codebase-aware assistants, PR review automation, test generation
- Practical SDLC improvement: you’ve improved how teams build and release with measurable results (cycle time, quality, on-call load, deploy frequency).
- Technical depth: you can read and write production code, guide design choices, and make good calls on quality and reliability.
- People leadership: coaching, feedback, hiring support, and creating a healthy team environment with clear expectations.
- Clear communication: crisp writing, good meeting hygiene, and strong coordination with product and other partners.
Please note that this role may evolve as our business needs change, so we appreciate your flexibility and adaptability.
What’s In It For You?
- Remote Flexibility: Enjoy the freedom of remote work from anywhere, balancing life and career seamlessly.
- Unforgettable Off-Sites: Twice a year, bond with colleagues in exciting destinations, fostering teamwork and fresh ideas.
- Paid Time Off and National Holidays: Enjoy 20 PTO days yearly and the National Holidays for relaxation and rejuvenation.

A Note About AI at Clutch
We love AI. We use it often and encourage our team to creatively and effectively leverage AI tools in their work. If you join Clutch, we hope you'll bring the same enthusiasm for exploring how AI can amplify impact, productivity, and innovation.
That said, during the interview process, we want to hear your thoughts. Please approach interviews without the use of AI tools—our goal is to get to know how you think, solve problems, and communicate. Once you're in the seat, bring on the prompts!
