About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Wolt Drive team, building and scaling Wolt’s suite of Delivery-as-a-Service products. This role focuses on designing, building, and scaling backend systems and APIs that power the Wolt Drive product family.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design, build, and own backend services and APIs supporting customer-facing products, merchant integrations, and internal operations tooling.
- →Design and operate high-throughput, low-latency backend systems that handle large volumes of delivery events, tracking updates, and merchant integrations in real time.
- →Work on systems that power critical flows such as order creation, delivery tracking, pricing, integrations, and operational workflows.
- →Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, and operations stakeholders to shape solutions end-to-end, with a backend focus.
- →Build reusable, testable, and maintainable backend components that can be shared across teams and products.
- →Integrate with internal and external systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability.
- →Balance short-term product needs with long-term platform health, making thoughtful architectural and technical trade-offs.
- →Champion engineering best practices, mentor other engineers, and help raise the bar for code quality and system design.
Requirements
- ✓Solid experience in backend development using Python (experience with Golang is a plus).
- ✓Hands-on experience with backend systems processing high volumes of events or requests, where reliability and performance are critical.
- ✓Hands-on experience working with non-relational datastores such as MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra.
- ✓Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and cloud infrastructure.
- ✓A proven track record of leading and driving technical projects, from idea to production.
- ✓Strong communication skills and experience mentoring and supporting other engineers in their growth.
