Freelance 2D Animator Wanted β Cake Mix Collective (Toronto / Remote)
Hello! Weβre Cake Mix Collective, a Toronto-based music collective producing an animated web series about Polo Lewis β a 20-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer chasing pop stardom in a satirical take on the music industry. Our work on Polo Lewis was recently featured in HipHopSince1987, highlighting the projectβs blend of music and animation.

Weβre looking for a freelance 2D animator to help bring upcoming episodes of the series to life. Youβll primarily be animating full episodes (2β6 minutes each) and/or select scenes that require more complex character movement/shots, with the possibility of longer episodes in the future. Many of our main characters and locations are already designed, and we have a style guide, but you may also be asked to expand existing assets and help design new characters and environments as the world grows.
The visual style falls somewhere between Moebius, BoJack Horseman, and Family Guy, with a writing style that has healthy dose of social commentary, so you should be comfortable working with that kind of material. The animation is fully 2D, and weβre flexible on software β use whatever tools you prefer, as long as the final look matches our established style.
Youβll be animating independently, while collaborating closely with the projectβs creators for direction, story, and feedback. Our goal is to release a new episode roughly every 1.5 months. The workload should be fairly steady over time, but this is best treated as a side gig, as there may be periods in the year with less or no work.
This is a paid, ongoing freelance opportunity. You will be fully credited as the animator, and youβre welcome to share clips in your portfolio once episodes are released. We retain IP rights and a commercial license for the finished work.
Remote work is completely welcome, and weβre happy to collaborate online. That said, being in Toronto is a big bonus, since the series is set in a stylized version of the city and knowing the city will be very helpful and in-person meetups are beneficial.
If this sounds like a fit, please email [Upgrade to PRO to see contact]Β with:
A brief introduction about who you are
A link to your reel and/or portfolio (especially character and narrative animation)
A few relevant samples (storyboards/illustration are a plus)
Your typical rates (per episode, per minute of animation, or your standard structure)
Feel free to tag or share with anyone who might be interested.
