The centennial (!!!) meta-analysis, conducted by Frank Schmidt of the University of Iowa in 2016, shows that out of the 31 most-studied predictors of human performance in the workplace, JEY (Job experience, years) ranks 22nd. Twenty-second, leaving ahead Reference checks (16th), Interests (15th), and even PBI (Phone-based interviews) (7th) π«‘
Which one ranks 1st? It's GMA (General mental ability). But that's not the entire picture. When combined with other predictors, the highest predictive accuracy is achieved when GMA is measured alongside Integrity (aka Honesty or Morality) πββοΈ
In simple words, what really matters is how smart you are and what principles you adhere to, not how long you've been working in a profession. Kind of obvious, but... π€·ββοΈ
