Art Director - Remote (Short-Term Project)
Context
Β Β A video game studio in an early production phase is looking for an Art Director for a time-limited collaboration. The goal is to define, organize, and lock down the complete artistic vision of the project so the team can produce coherently and independently after the engagement ends.Β Β Β
Duration
Β Β Fixed, short-term period. Approximately 1 month. High intensity. Strategic focus, not large-scale asset production.Β Β Β
Main Objective
Β Β Build a strong, clear, and executable artistic vision. Translate creative intent into operational visual rules. Leave the team with sufficient documentation to continue without ambiguity.Β Β Β
Key Responsibilities
Define the overall art direction of the game (tone, atmosphere, visual identity).
Establish the projectβs aesthetic: references, influences, constraints, and priorities.
Align visual criteria across art, design, and narrative.
Β Β Β Create the projectβs Art Bible.Β
Produce all necessary documentation for future production.
Ensure the art direction supports gameplay mechanics, pacing, and player experience.
Identify existing visual inconsistencies and resolve them at a conceptual level.
Minimum Deliverables
A complete, well-structured Art Bible.
Clear, actionable visual style guides.
Definition of color palettes, lighting, materials, and formal language.
Justified and contextualized visual references.
Guidelines for characters, environments, UI, and VFX (final assets not required).
Documentation designed to scale production without ongoing dependence on the Art Director.
Required Profile
Proven experience as an Art Director in video games.
Ability to operate at a high conceptual level and translate vision into practical rules.
Systemic thinking: understands art as part of game design, not a decorative layer.
Strong communication skills and rigorous documentation practices.
Decisiveness and ability to close visual discussions.
Experience creating art bibles or style guides for production teams.
This is not a role for
Intensive asset production.
Isolated concept art without a system.
Long-term or maintenance-based work.
Engagement Model
Β Β Project-based collaboration. Remote or hybrid depending on fit. Compensation to be defined based on experience and scope.Β Β Β
Expected Outcome
Β Β At the end of the engagement, the team should be able to produce coherent, consistent art aligned with the original vision without ongoing supervision. The project should be artistically βlockedβ at the direction level, even if production continues.Β
