U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has a public job notice for intermittent language specialists on usajobs.gov, open now through 01/16/2026. We are looking for linguists with strong Arabic, Korean, Russian, Spanish or Vietnamese into English translation and interpretation experience in the fields of immigration, criminal law, and transnational crimes, to join our pool of linguists.
β¨ Intermittent Schedule
Intermittent employees provide language services on an as-needed basis, meaning there is no set schedule or guaranteed workload, and earn an hourly rate by assignment.
β¨ Location
This is not a remote job. Candidates must reside in the New York City area.
β¨ Pay Scale & Grade
The job is listed at the GS-9/11/12 level.
β¨ At the GS-9 level, the language specialistβs main job duty is to provide telephonic interpretation services to government officials during a variety of immigration-related interviews and administrative proceedings.
β¨ At the GS-11/12 level, in addition to interpreting, language specialists translate documents or transcribe and translate audio material dealing with a wide variety of subject matters. The translations and transcriptions are used by USCIS and ICE officials and attorneys to make final determinations in administrative immigration proceedings and as evidence for the U.S. Government to investigate and prosecute immigration and customs-related crimes.
