Multilingual Translator

One of my top foreign-language editors shared an a-mew-sing translation tail... 🐈 Natja I.* was working on a "technical text for a client, who insisted that I use DeepL," she explains. DeepL is a CAT (computer-aided translation) tool. It's good, but far from perfect. Translating isn't a word-for-word science, which is where CAT tools go wrong. Translations require context and cultural understanding. "Not only did we have to use DeepL, but we also had to disclose use of it with a disclaimer at the bottom of the copy," explains Natja. When translating the disclaimer, DeepL took the acronym a bit too literally. English original "This text was translated using a CAT tool." DeepL's German translation "Dieser Text wurde mithilfe eines Katzenwerkzeugs übersetzt." Translation of the translation: "This text was translated using a cat 🐱(Katze) tool (werkzeug) 🔨." I don't know about y'all's cats, but although my Mittens is smart, she's not English-German-translation smart. *Natja writes and edits flawlessly in original English, German, and French, and also provides high-quality written translations across all three for global corporations.
