About the Role
We are looking for an App Foundation Engineer to join Airbnb’s cross-platform team that builds high-quality and performant capabilities powering almost all features in the Guest and Host ecosystem. This role focuses on building App Product Frameworks, Insights & Logging, Performance & App Health, and Feature Architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- →Explore, shape, and develop new product experiences alongside cross-functional partners
- →Build efficient and reusable backend capabilities while maintaining performance and scalable systems
- →Lead initiatives that improve Guest and Host experience by enhancing app responsiveness and reliability
- →Drive a performance roadmap by identifying bottlenecks and delivering improvements
- →Influence architecture and standards across Airbnb’s backend ecosystem
- →Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams to define and ship impactful features
- →Propose architectural patterns for high-scale applications
- →Write unit and integration tests and review code
- →Review service-level performance metrics and triage anomalies
- →Profile and debug performance issues across service boundaries
- →Partner with engineers to improve critical request flows
- →Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions
- →Document learnings and create playbooks for performance improvements
Requirements
- ✓5+ years of software development experience
- ✓Strong expertise in one or more back-end server languages (Java/Kotlin/C++/etc.)
- ✓Experience in building and scaling high-quality and high-traffic products in a distributed manner
- ✓Deep backend expertise including databases, cloud technologies, and asynchronous messaging systems
- ✓End-to-end ownership mentality that transcends team boundaries
- ✓Passion for building strong collaborative relationships
- ✓Ability to tackle projects with large open-ended scope
- ✓Able to self-serve on data analysis and make data-driven decisions
- ✓Rigorous attention to detail and the ability to tackle ambiguous problems
- ✓Embrace the ever-changing culture, prioritize breadth over depth but can still go in-depth when needed
