About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join Airbnb's Online Data organization. This role involves designing, building, and operating a new source-of-truth, open-source NewSql database running on top of stateful Kubernetes that hosts all critical Airbnb user, listing, and financial data.
Key Responsibilities
- βBe hands-on (code, design, test) and collaborate with cross-team partners to deliver on multi-month projects in a timely fashion.
- βDesign frameworks and maintain the general ecosystem around our NewSql databaseβs monitoring, permissions, service discovery integration, etc.
- βEmpower and simplify the way engineers at Airbnb define and manage data by building and operating a generalized data schematization solution for a wide variety of storage backends.
Requirements
- β5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale core backend distributed systems like storage, data ingestion, backup and restore, streaming.
- βAbility to own and dive deeply into a complex code base.
- βExperience maintaining, analyzing, and debugging production systems.
- βKnack for writing clean, readable, testable, maintainable code.
- βStrong collaboration and communication skills in a remote-working environment.
- βDemonstrate strong ownership and consistently deliver in a timely manner.
