ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our growing EMEA Controllership team based in Amsterdam. Reporting to the Associate Finance Director, EMEA, you will play a critical role in managing the financial close, statutory compliance, and reporting for our EMEA entity portfolio. This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving environment where you’ll work across multiple jurisdictions, currencies, and regulatory frameworks — including supporting Airwallex’s banking licence obligations.
You’ll be joining at an exciting time: our EMEA finance function is scaling rapidly, and you’ll have the opportunity to shape processes, build controls, and drive improvements from the ground up. We’re building an AI-first finance team where tools like Claude and Gemini are part of daily workflows — from technical research to reconciliation review. If you’re someone who thrives on ownership, is comfortable navigating complexity, embraces new technology, and wants to grow their career in a high-calibre fintech finance team, this role is for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the month-end close process for assigned EMEA entities, including journal entry preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and P&L reviews in Oracle Fusion prior to submission to FP&A
- Prepare and review monthly reporting packs, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data across multiple jurisdictions and currencies
- Support financial statement audits (statutory and group) by coordinating with external auditors (e.g. EY) and preparing audit deliverables including IFRS disclosures, lead schedules, and management representation responses
- Develop AI Agent/Tools to fully automate or drive efficiency on all the tasks above.
- Manage local statutory and tax compliance filings across EMEA entities, liaising with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate submissions
- Perform intercompany reconciliations and resolve cross-entity discrepancies in a multi-entity, multi-currency environment
- Support Airwallex’s growth agenda by contributing to new licence applications and market entry workstreams across EMEA — including preparing IFRS financial models, pro-forma financial statements, regulatory capital projections, and finance workstream deliverables required by regulators
- Support regulatory financial reporting requirements for EMEA licensed entities, including EMI and credit institution obligations (e.g. FINREP, COREP data inputs, DNB regulatory returns)
- Drive process improvement initiatives within the Controllership team, including automation of manual processes, standardisation of close procedures, and enhancement of internal controls
- Leverage AI tools (e.g. Claude, Gemini) to accelerate day-to-day finance workflows such as technical accounting research, data analysis, reconciliation anomaly detection, disclosure drafting, and audit query resolution
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams on the financial reporting implications of new product launches and business initiatives
- Assist with ad-hoc finance projects including IFRS technical accounting assessments, ERP configuration changes, and system migrations, product enhancements.
- Partner closely with the Tax, Treasury, and FP&A teams on cross-functional workstreams and group-wide finance transformation projects
-
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, RA, or equivalent)
- 4–6 years of post-qualification experience in a finance or controllership role, with at least 2 years in a multi-entity, international environment
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS; familiarity with Dutch GAAP and local statutory reporting requirements across European jurisdictions is a plus
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion (Cloud ERP) or a comparable enterprise ERP system (SAP, NetSuite)
- Experience working in the fintech, payments, or financial services industry preferred
- Excellent Excel and data analysis skills; comfort with large datasets and multi-currency consolidations
- AI-literate: comfortable using AI assistants and large language models as productivity tools for research, analysis, drafting, and problem-solving in a finance context — you don’t need to be an engineer, but you should be curious, experimental, and proactive in adopting new technology
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with external auditors, tax advisors, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Self-starter with a proactive mindset, comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch or another European language is a plus
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with regulatory reporting for licensed financial institutions (EMI, PSD2, credit institution frameworks)
- Familiarity with DORA, ICAAP, or prudential reporting requirements
- Experience supporting banking licence applications or regulatory change programmes
- Exposure to share-based payment accounting (IFRS 2) and intercompany transfer pricing
- SQL or BI tool experience (e.g. Hex, Tableau, Databricks) for financial data analysis
- Experience building AI-augmented workflows or automations in a finance function (e.g. using AI for journal entry anomaly detection, cash flow forecasting, or automated report generation)
