About the Role
The Astera Institute is seeking a software engineer to help build and scale The Stacks, a new content platform designed to improve how scientific and technical work is shared and discovered. This is a unique opportunity to shape public digital infrastructure at its earliest stages.
Key Responsibilities
- →Contribute to the architecture, development, and maintenance of The Stacks platform
- →Design flexible internal structures that can adapt as the platform develops
- →Implement high-quality user-facing interfaces using modern web technologies
- →Build reliable APIs and services with content-management fundamentals
- →Ensure data integrity, performance, scalability, and maintainability
- →Work closely with product and design teams to develop user-centric features
- →Manage and deploy cloud infrastructure for high availability
- →Maintain high-quality engineering practices including version control and testing
- →Provide ongoing support and improvements post-launch
- →Contribute to open-source components of The Stacks
Requirements
- ✓BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- ✓7+ years experience building production-grade software systems
- ✓Demonstrated experience with content-heavy or knowledge-based platforms
- ✓Strong engineering fundamentals and experience owning complex systems
- ✓Proficiency with modern backend and frontend technologies
- ✓Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent)
- ✓Ability to work quickly in environments with evolving requirements
- ✓Highly adaptable and comfortable working across disciplines
