About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Consumer Lending Team at Block, Inc. (formerly Afterpay). This role involves leading technical strategy and building scalable Global Lending solutions that impact millions of customers across Afterpay and Cash App platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- →Own the complete software lifecycle from design and development through production rollout and ongoing system support
- →Work in cross-functional teams to drive product feature discovery, delivery, and validation
- →Drive system consolidations and service improvements to enhance platform reliability and performance
- →Identify, design, and champion technical initiatives that deliver measurable organizational impact
- →Influence technical direction and standards across multiple teams and product areas
- →Utilize advanced AI tools to improve engineering speed, quality, and learning
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of experience building scalable software applications using modern JVM languages (Java or Kotlin preferred)
- ✓Experience with backend technologies including Spring Boot, ORM/Hibernate, gRPC, Kafka, Redis, Temporal workflow, and various databases
- ✓Strong experience with Cloud technologies, preferably AWS stack
- ✓Experience with structured Logging, error tracing, service monitoring, and alerting
- ✓Experience building testable, decoupled, maintainable code with high test coverage
- ✓Experience working in agile and fast-paced environments
