About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Legal Director to build and lead the Legal function for Brooks in the Asia Pacific region. This pivotal role will establish robust legal operations, provide strategic leadership, and ensure compliance across APAC markets.

Key Responsibilities

→Lead, establish, and implement legal processes and policies for the APAC region
→Oversee all anti-counterfeiting operations and develop market-specific tactics
→Direct legal aspects of APAC marketing operations ensuring regulatory compliance
→Lead commercial contract operations including vendor, supplier, and retailer relationships
→Implement ethics and compliance programs including FCPA and anti-bribery training
→Oversee all employment matters and provide counsel to the APAC HR Team
→Manage outside counsel work and monitor related budgets
→Lead government relations efforts to build relationships with officials and regulators
→Collaborate with global legal team on IP, Employment, Marketing, Contracts, and Compliance
→Travel between APAC and US offices as needed (up to 15-20% travel)
→Work flexible hours to accommodate cross-time zone collaboration
→Define, implement and oversee all legal operations including regulatory compliance and risk assessments
→Take full responsibility for legal risk management across all APAC jurisdictions
→Drive strategic legal initiatives supporting company growth in APAC markets
→Lead risk assessments for new business initiatives and market expansion
→Manage legal budget for the region and oversee outside counsel relationships
→Lead all legal operations for China including regulatory compliance requirements
→Serve as liaison between global Legal team and local China team
→Establish comprehensive regulatory compliance programs covering Chinese legal requirements
→Ensure compliance with anti-corruption laws including FCPA and Chinese regulations

Requirements

✓Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from accredited US law school or LLM from US law school
✓Legal Profession Qualification Certificate from Ministry of Justice of People's Republic of China
✓12+ years of experience as an attorney
✓7+ years in-house experience (preference for US-based consumer goods company in China)
✓Fluent written and spoken Mandarin and English (absolute requirement)
✓Experience translating legal concepts between US and Chinese contexts
✓Understanding of both US and Chinese business cultures, practices, and negotiation styles
✓Proven ability to navigate complex cross-cultural business environments
✓Experience in consumer goods, retail, or footwear/apparel industry preferred
✓Exceptional diplomatic skills with ability to build trust across cultural boundaries
✓Strong conflict resolution abilities and experience mediating between competing priorities
✓Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire trust and effective working relationships
✓Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities in ambiguous situations
✓Ability to work independently while maintaining close coordination with global team
✓Proactive problem-solving approach with attention to detail
✓Excellent active listening skills with ability to communicate complex legal analysis
✓Ability to achieve optimum legal and business outcomes in timely manner
