About the Role
Blue Man Group Orlando is seeking a full-time Head of Props to manage the Props Department. This role involves overseeing technical and safety aspects, construction, repair, purchase, and maintenance of all props and consumables, while collaborating with multiple departments and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- →Manage the Props Department for the Orlando production and create crew schedules
- →Communicate notes and changes to the Props Department, Artistic Direction, and other technical departments
- →Supervise ordering and organization of supplies, consumables, and shop inventories
- →Collaborate with the Production Manager to create and maintain department budgets
- →Maintain props, consumables, and design artistic aesthetic
- →Oversee Props show running tracks and ensure crew run sheets are updated regularly
- →Ensure show operations are performed safely, professionally, and efficiently
- →Execute or ensure repair, construction, maintenance, and restock of all props and supplies
- →Troubleshoot technical issues and adhere to safety rules and regulations
- →Ensure Props Crew coverage for all local and non-local Blue Man events
- →Participate in load-in, load-out, and assist other departments as needed
- →Oversee department payroll and participate in gigs as requested
Requirements
- ✓Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- ✓Knowledge of foams, plastics, glues, solvents, paints, tools, and fastening hardware
- ✓Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Photoshop, and Adobe
- ✓Advanced skills in 3D drafting using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks are a plus
- ✓Ability to work in low-light environments and use tempera paint for stage application
- ✓Experience with pressurized pneumatic systems, hand and machine sewing, plumbing, air, and electrical systems
- ✓Knowledge of testing voltage, batteries, remote control systems, and household wiring
- ✓Project management, budgeting, and departmental budget forecasting skills
- ✓Adherence to OSHA regulations and participation in health and safety training
- ✓At least 5 years of previous experience in a similar environment
- ✓Previous leadership experience and working knowledge of Microsoft applications
- ✓Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or similar field, or equivalent relevant work experience
- ✓Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card
- ✓Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with clear communication via headset
- ✓Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
- ✓Ability to perform essential physical functions like climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting up to 50lbs, and working with limited visibility
- ✓Verification of the right to work in the United States
