About the Role
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer, BIM Designer to join the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) In-House Design (IHD) directorate. This role involves supporting capital projects through the design phase by preparing engineering models and documents for water and wastewater facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- →Prepare engineering models and documents for water supply facilities, water tunnels, wastewater pumping stations, and treatment systems
- →Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other BIM/CAD software for design work
- →Conduct field investigations and use 3D laser scanning to capture existing conditions
- →Review and oversee designs and models prepared by outsourced engineering firms
- →Prepare 2D and 3D building information models from data and sketches
- →Perform field inspections and make calculations
- →Maintain office records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys, and inspection data
- →Read and interpret complex models and drawings, comparing them with BIM/CAD standards
- →Assist with BIM/CAD templates setup, project technology planning, and standards implementation
- →Perform clash detection, develop 4D/5D models, and conduct construction sequencing analysis
- →Work with 3D laser scanners, virtual/augmented reality devices, and related software packages
Requirements
- ✓Proficiency in Autodesk Revit (Architecture, Structure, and MEP) and AutoCAD
- ✓Knowledge of Autodesk Civil3D, Navisworks, Infraworks, Recap, and BIM360
- ✓Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications
- ✓Strong communication skills and professional attitude
- ✓Ability to work quickly and efficiently with limited supervision
- ✓Familiarity with advanced architecture, engineering, and construction industry practices
- ✓Understanding of MEP 3D coordination processes
