About the Role:
As a Staff Software Engineer in our Foundations department, you will be a technical pillar for the Managed AI initiative. You will tackle the most complex, mission-critical challenges involved in building a world-class AI orchestration platform. This is a high-leverage role where your architectural decisions will impact the productivity of every engineer at Crusoe and the performance of our global AI infrastructure.
You will spend your time navigating deep technical ambiguity, mentoring senior engineers, and ensuring our foundational systems are scalable, secure, and resilient.
What You'll Be Working On:
- Technical Strategy & Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable systems that underpin our Managed AI offerings.
- System Ownership: Drive the long-term technical roadmap for the Foundations team, ensuring our infrastructure can support rapid growth and evolving AI workloads.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Work across Cloud Engineering to align technical goals, solve complex integration hurdles, and ensure high engineering standards across the organization.
- Code & Mentorship: Lead by example through high-quality code contributions, thorough design reviews, and by mentoring Senior and Staff-level peers.
- Operational Excellence: Champion reliability, observability, and performance. You will be responsible for identifying and resolving systemic bottlenecks before they become outages.
- Innovation: Stay at the forefront of AI infrastructure trends to ensure Crusoe is utilizing the most efficient and powerful tools available.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
- Experience: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a Staff-level or equivalent technical leadership role.
- System Design Mastery: A proven track record of designing, building, and scaling distributed systems in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in languages such as Go, Python, or Rust, and deep experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Infrastructure Background: Strong understanding of networking, storage, and compute fundamentals, specifically as they relate to GPU-accelerated workloads or AI training/inference.
- Problem Solving: The ability to take a vague business goal and decompose it into a multi-quarter technical execution plan.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills and the "social capital" to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority.
Bonus Points
- Direct experience with Managed AI services (Vertex AI, SageMaker, etc.) or LLM orchestration frameworks.
- Deep knowledge of low-level systems programming or high-performance networking (InfiniBand, RDMA).
- Contributions to open-source projects in the cloud-native or AI/ML space.
