About the Role
Ethos is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design and build scalable platform services and systems that power their core platform. This role requires combining deep technical judgment with strong leadership and ownership to lead complex initiatives end-to-end.
Key Responsibilities
- →Own and drive the technical roadmap for key platform areas
- →Lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex backend systems
- →Make high-leverage architecture decisions that improve platform scalability
- →Lead multi-team initiatives from concept to launch
- →Architect, build, and evolve API frameworks and platform capabilities
- →Establish and improve patterns for backend development
- →Drive a culture of operational excellence through monitoring and alerting
- →Lead initiatives to evaluate and adopt new technologies
- →Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of full-time engineering experience
- ✓Demonstrated experience designing backend architectures
- ✓Strong understanding of distributed systems and API design
- ✓Track record of leading multi-team projects with measurable impact
- ✓Hands-on experience with TypeScript, Go, Python, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, React, AWS
- ✓Strong track record of leading multi-team projects
- ✓Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- ✓High degree of ownership and proactive problem-solving
- ✓Strong CS fundamentals including data structures and algorithms
- ✓Familiarity with LLM implementations
- ✓Experience establishing and driving team KPIs
