Position overview
The System Engineer is responsible for end-to-end system-level quality, integrating cross-functional components, and ensuring efficient issue resolution and continuous system improvement. This role bridges triage, development, and validation, evolving from issue handling to system ownership and optimization.
Role responsibilities
- System-Level Ownership
- Own system behavior across modules (perception, planning, control, etc.)
- Understand and manage cross-component dependencies and interfaces
- Advanced Triage & Root Cause Analysis
- Lead complex issue investigations beyond surface-level triage
- Drive root cause analysis across software, data, and system interactions
- Ensure high-quality and timely resolution of critical issues
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as the central point between engineering, testing, and operations teams
- Align priorities and drive resolution across multiple stakeholders
- System Quality & Process Improvement
- Identify systemic issues and recurring patterns
- Improve triage workflows, feedback loops, and system robustness
- Propose and implement scalable solutions (not just case-by-case fixes)
- Data-Driven Decision Making
- Use logs, metrics, and field data to diagnose issues and guide improvements
- Define KPIs for system performance and triage efficiency
- Technical Leadership (Emerging)
- Influence system design decisions based on real-world issues
- Contribute to architecture discussions and quality strategy
Required experience
- Strong system thinking and ability to understand complex, integrated systems
- Experience in debugging, triage, or system integration (AV or similar complex systems preferred)
- Ability to work across teams and drive alignment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with logs analysis, data pipelines, and debugging tools
