ABOUT GOVSIGNALS
We are shaping the future of government contracting with breakthrough AIβdriven solutions. We are disrupting a multi-billion-dollar industry and enabling privateβsector technologies to secure government contracts faster than ever, strengthening national security and driving economic growth.
GovSignals has built the most advanced governmentβcontracting AI platform available. From small businesses to Fortune 500 enterprises, our platform multiplies the opportunities contractors can pursue and empowers them to deliver fully compliant, winning proposals in hours instead of months. As one of the largest aggregators of U.S. government data, we set trends rather than follow them.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll work directly with the CTO and co-founder to design and build the systems that everything at GovSignals runs on β from serverless runtimes to Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
This isn't application code. This is the platform underneath it. You'll architect, implement, and operate high-performance backend services in TypeScript, deploy them across containerized and edge environments, and build the tooling that lets product engineers ship fast, securely, and with confidence. Your decisions define how software runs here β balancing speed, reliability, and scale across an AI-driven platform that's growing fast.
If you've built platforms that other engineers depend on and take pride in systems that just work, this is your role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain high compliance environments running on the edge (Cloudflare) and in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Optimize and scale our data platform, including Postgres with local replication and S3 and R2 object storage
- Build the core systems β data flows, deployment tooling, and runtime frameworks β that power GovSignals' AI platform
- Prototype and scale new platform capabilities that make development faster and more consistent
- Own CI/CD and automation that make shipping seamless and auditable
- Create tools and workflows that remove friction and accelerate product delivery
- Engineer secure-by-default systems with strong automation, minimalism, and clear provenance
- Balance speed and reliability through simplicity and sound technical design
- Partner with the Product team to design platform features that multiply their output
- Work directly with leadership to evolve infrastructure strategy and accelerate developer velocity
WHO YOU ARE
You've built platforms that other engineers ship on β not just services that run in isolation. You understand that great platform work is invisible: when you've done it right, product teams move faster and don't think about why.
You're comfortable operating across layers β from Postgres logical replication to Kubernetes networking to Typescript services β and you make informed tradeoffs between speed and durability. You default to simplicity, automate what should be automated, and know when to build versus when to buy.
You treat infrastructure as a product. Your users are other engineers, and you care about their experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering roles
- Experience in building and deploying production services (e.g. Typescript or Python)
- Experience scaling Docker and Kubernetes in live environments
- Experience with Postgres and data modeling at scale and overtime
- Experience with observability stacks (e.g. OpenTelemetry)
- Proven ability to move across layers β from backend services to runtime deployments β with speed and precision
Bonus:
- Contributions to open-source platform or infrastructure tooling
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, or CMMC frameworks
- Interest in AI-assisted engineering or automation of developer workflows
- Prior startup or early-stage experience with high ownership and rapid iteration
WHAT THIS IS NOT
This isn't for engineers who want to maintain existing infrastructure on autopilot, prefer well-documented runbooks over building from scratch, or view platform work as purely operational. You'll be building new systems, not just keeping the lights on. If you need a fully staffed SRE team around you to feel comfortable, this isn't the right fit. We need someone who runs toward hard infrastructure problems and ships solutions under pressure.
