About the Role
We are looking for a Technical Lead to join the Security Privacy team at HubSpot. This role involves leading the team responsible for building and operating services that help HubSpot understand, protect, and manage personally identifiable information (PII) across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- →Own the technical direction for privacy tooling and co-set product strategy as part of the TL/PM triad.
- →Lead delivery of complex projects across data privacy, PII management, and data protection domains.
- →Take proactive ownership for your team’s on-call health, reliability, and code quality.
- →Grow the engineers around you and build an inclusive, high-trust team culture.
- →Design and evolve distributed systems that scan HubSpot's codebase and infrastructure to detect PII usage.
- →Own reliability and on-call for the services your team runs, including alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement of data privacy pipelines.
- →Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Security teams to translate data protection requirements into technical solutions.
- →Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, pairing, and thoughtful feedback.
- →Shape the roadmap for how HubSpot manages and protects personal data at scale.
Requirements
- ✓Senior backend engineering experience with proven leadership in small teams, projects, or technical areas.
- ✓Strong experience with at least one JVM language (ideally Java) and relational databases (e.g., MySQL).
- ✓Experience with technologies like Kafka, asynchronous processing, or large-scale data systems.
- ✓Strong understanding of distributed systems (e.g., microservices, message queues, data pipelines).
- ✓Commitment to reliability, observability, and operational excellence, with experience in on-call rotations.
- ✓Excellent communication skills with both engineers and non-engineers.
- ✓Value for mentorship, feedback, and inclusion.
