About the Role
ICON is seeking an Operations & Test Engineer to support the development of robotic products and materials for the Olympus Off-Planet R&D program. This role involves translating engineering concepts into operational processes and coordinating cross-functional activities across various departments.
Key Responsibilities
- →Design and set up a lunar simulant production space
- →Lead raw material ordering and inventory management
- →Perform simulant milling, blending, manufacturing, and QA/QC lab testing
- →Generate documentation and maintain records for simulant and Olympus labs
- →Oversee machine and equipment maintenance for both labs
- →Coordinate equipment calibration to maintain high performance
- →Define and track operational KPIs
- →Partner with Defense R&D leadership to improve system reliability
- →Develop SOPs for lab and production equipment
- →Assist with robotic system assembly and testing
- →Support mineralogical testing and chemical analysis of lunar regolith
- →Contribute to R&D efforts to scale production and optimize operations
- →Coordinate facility-related activities to improve workflow
- →Assist with inventory operations for consumable materials
- →Promote a safety-first culture
Requirements
- ✓Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- ✓5+ years of experience in operations engineering or related fields
- ✓Experience with structured problem-solving methods
- ✓Ability to analyze operational data and communicate insights
- ✓Working knowledge of production operations, SOPs, and quality concepts
- ✓Preferred Skills
- ✓Previous startup experience
- ✓Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or reliability practices
- ✓Experience with Jira/Confluence, MES/CMMS, and data visualization tools
- ✓Ability to work in fast-scaling environments
