ABOUT THE ROLE
Hi, Iβm Sandy Scholes, and I lead the People team here at Jane. Iβve been with Jane for three years, and during that time Iβve had the chance to help shape how we hire, support, and grow our team as we scale.
The People team helps the helpers at Jane, so that Janers can help the helpers in healthcare. Weβre one layer removed from the customer but deeply connected to the mission. Every hire we make, every onboarding experience we shape, every leader we support has a ripple effect on the thousands of clinics who rely on Jane every day. Our role is to remove obstacles for our people so they can show up fully and do their best work for the practitioners and patients we serve.

Iβm hiring for a People Partner to support our Engineering team. This is a role that sits right at the intersection of people and business. Our Engineering org is growing quickly and navigating meaningful change, and this person will play a key role in shaping how we scale in a way that supports both performance and culture. If youβre energized by complexity, care deeply about people, and want to have a real impact on how a high-performing team evolves, this is a meaningful place to do that work.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Be a trusted advocate and advisor across the org. Coach ICs and managers through performance, career development, conflict, and team dynamics, acting as a genuine advocate for the people you support. You'll go to bat for teams, leaders, and employees when it matters, while always holding the broader business in view.
- Own the full performance and ER spectrum. Navigate the tough conversations and support people through the hard stuff. Whether it's a performance issue, a broken relationship, or an employee who needs a different path forward, you help managers and employees navigate it with honesty and care, knowing when to coach, when to step in, and when to bring others in.
- Lead Talent Reviews, and retention efforts with real ownership. You'll have autonomy running Talent Reviews, and Performance @ Jane within your client group. This isn't about project management, it's about knowing your people, identifying top talent, spotting flight risks early, and making sure the right conversations happen before there's a problem to solve.
- Support a client group of 233 people across two Engineering Functions. You'll co-support this group alongside another People Partner, ensuring consistent coverage and strong relationships across both functions.
- Bring an AI-forward approach to how you work. You actively use AI tools to enhance your day-to-day, whether that's surfacing themes in people data, improving how you communicate, or moving faster on program execution. You don't wait to be shown how; you figure it out and model what modern People work looks like.
- Manage leaves and accommodations end to end. Handle intake, GRTW/CDO alternatives, and leader communication, while showing up for the smaller moments too: onboarding, 90-day check-ins, career transitions, and major life events.
- Use data and change management to drive impact. Leverage Health Check and people insights for team-level action planning, support small and medium-scale change, and partner with senior leadership on org structure.
- Navigate the grey. Help Janers make good decisions that balance the individual, the team, the company, and the customer. Bring good judgment to grey areas and don't reach for a blanket rule when what's in front of you deserves to be treated like a one-off.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Communication that lands - especially when it's hard. You're confident and comfortable leading difficult conversations and coaching others through them. Whether it's a performance issue, a team conflict, or a senior leader who needs a real conversation, you don't shy away β you show up.
- Experience that's been earned, not just accumulated. A minimum of 5 years in HR β ideally across a coordinator and/or generalist foundation β plus at least 2 years of dedicated people partnering in a high-growth tech environment.
- A real track record with technical teams. You've supported engineering, product, or developer orgs and understand how these teams are structured, operate, and measure success. You speak their language, understand the tech stack well enough to be a trusted thought partner, and earn credibility through substance.
- Strong business acumen. You understand the goals and dynamics of the groups you support, align your People work accordingly, and can connect people strategy to business outcomes clearly.
- Comfort in flat, cross-functional environments. You thrive supporting technical teams, engineering, product, and design, and know how to be a credible partner across all of them.
- A builder's mindset, and no need for a playbook. You operate without a script. Ambiguity doesn't slow you down; it's where you do your best work. If you need a defined process handed to you before you can move, this isn't the right fit.
- A genuine instinct for retention and team connection. You understand that keeping great people isn't a program, it's a practice. You're always reading the room, building relationships, and thinking ahead about what teams need to stay engaged and performing.
- A habit of working smarter. You actively use AI tools to sharpen your thinking, streamline your work, and stay ahead, not because it's expected, but because you're always looking for a better way.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You're a trusted advisor and advocate to the ICs and managers in your client group. Leaders come to you proactively, not just when things are on fire. You're running Growth Reviews and Talent Reviews with confidence and real ownership, spotting themes before they become problems, and ensuring top talent feels seen, supported, and retained. You're coaching managers to be more effective every week and finding ways to do your work better, not just more. You'll initially be embedded in our Engineering organization, with scope evolving as the team grows.
