About the Role
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join our Player Team and build a world-class platform for our customers. This role focuses on developing and optimizing video playback for millions of users on our Android platform, solving complex technical problems and building systems that run at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- →Build and maintain our Android video player using ExoPlayer
- →Optimize adaptive streaming, DRM, offline playback, and error handling
- →Work with cross-platform teams on media APIs, analytics, and QoE improvements
- →Debugging, performance tuning, and maintain a QA mindset
- →Optimize playback start time, minimize buffering, and manage memory usage to prevent ANRs
- →Leverage MediaCodec APIs to ensure efficient hardware-accelerated decoding and reduce battery consumption
- →Resolve device-specific playback issues across different OEMs and chipset architectures
Requirements
- ✓Strong knowledge of ExoPlayer and Android Media APIs
- ✓Experience with HLS, DASH, DRM (Widevine), and ABR streaming
- ✓2-4 years of experience in Kotlin with a deep understanding of the Android SDK and LifeCycles
- ✓Good experience with ExoPlayer or Media3
- ✓Knowledge of PlayerView, MediaSource, and TrackSelector
- ✓Deep knowledge of DASH, HLS, and Low-Latency HLS
- ✓Experience implementing Widevine (Modular) and managing secure key exchanges
- ✓Proficiency in using SurfaceView vs. TextureView for video rendering and handling aspect ratio transformations
- ✓Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- ✓2-4 years of Android development experience in Kotlin or Java
