About the Role
We are looking for a Lead AI Engineer to join our AI & Analytics organization at Klaviyo. This role involves leading the development of high-impact AI services and agentic systems, focusing on building scalable backend systems and APIs that power our AI products for 183K+ customers.
Key Responsibilities
- →Define and improve the engineering architecture for Service and Marketing AI capabilities
- →Build and harden AI serving systems, leading the development of services that host and orchestrate AI models
- →Evolve our agentic architecture, driving the technical roadmap for AI agents
- →Set engineering standards for AI services, establishing best practices for evaluation and safety
- →Lead cross-team technical work, acting as the primary technical interface between AI and other teams
- →Mentor and uplevel engineers, coaching them through design and implementation
- →Help build the Palo Alto hub, shaping local engineering rituals and collaboration patterns
- →Measure key metrics for systems and use insights to drive technical decisions
Requirements
- ✓8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend and distributed systems
- ✓Hands-on experience with generative and agentic AI in production
- ✓Deep experience with large-scale distributed systems
- ✓Strong Python and data tooling fluency
- ✓Production-grade cloud experience with AWS and Kubernetes
- ✓Evaluation and quality-obsessed mindset
- ✓Technical leadership experience, influencing architecture and facilitating design reviews
- ✓Collaborative and customer-first approach
- ✓Experience with agentic coding tools and AI-first working methods
