About the Role
As part of Nu Mexico's KYC Ops team, you'll be at the heart of one of the most important compliance functions in a financial institution β making sure we truly know our customers, protect them, and protect the business from financial crime. Your work directly enables Nu to onboard customers with confidence while staying fully compliant with Mexican and international regulations.
You'll run screening and due diligence routines that span PEP analysis, sanctions list verification (OFAC, UN, SAT 69, Lista de Personas Bloqueadas), FATCA/CRS compliance, and more. Every case you analyze and every opinion you deliver contributes to a financial system that is safer, fairer, and more trustworthy.
This role sits at the intersection of operational precision and regulatory expertise. You'll work independently on your routines while collaborating closely with AML Ops, FinSec Ops, and other teams to handle complex cases and drive continuous improvement across the squad.
You'll be responsible for
β’ Execute KYC screening and due diligence routines for prospects and customers β including PEP analysis (domestic, related PEP, PEP MX, and international), negative media investigations, and clear risk-based case opinions.
β’ Analyze and process screening results against regulatory and sanctions lists β including Lista de Personas Bloqueadas, Interpol, SAT 69, OFAC, and UN β delivering thorough, well-documented technical opinions.
β’ Manage FATCA/CRS compliance routines, ensuring accurate identification and treatment of relevant customers in line with applicable regulations.
β’ Partner with AML Ops Mexico, FinSec Ops, and other cross-functional teams to evaluate high-risk prospects or clients and reach coordinated, well-supported decisions.
β’ Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls and improve KYC operational processes, actively contributing to the squad's continuous improvement initiatives.
β’ Participate in projects and initiatives with significant operational impact β bringing your regulatory knowledge to help design scalable, compliant solutions.
β’ Support internal queries on KYC and screening routines, providing clear and timely guidance to colleagues across teams.
We are looking for a person who has
Required
β’ Hands-on experience in KYC, compliance, AML, customer registration, or regulatory operations within a financial institution.
β’ Solid understanding of Mexican KYC regulatory requirements, including PEP screening, sanctions list verification (OFAC, UN, SAT 69, Lista de Personas Bloqueadas), and FATCA/CRS obligations.
β’ Strong analytical and investigative skills β able to conduct thorough case reviews, form clear technical opinions, and make well-reasoned recommendations.
β’ Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet regulatory deadlines, and operate independently within a structured compliance environment.
β’ Clear and effective written and verbal communication in Spanish and/or English.
β’ Meticulous attention to detail and high standards of integrity when handling sensitive customer data.
Nice to have
β’ Experience with customer onboarding, registration updates, or acquisition compliance processes.
β’ Proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, Looker, or SQL for data tracking, reporting, or operational analysis.
β’ Exposure to process improvement or internal control projects within a compliance or operations team.
