About the Role
We are looking for an Automation & AI Engineer to join our Product & Tech team at Octopus Energy Germany. In this key role, you will automate core processes throughout the customer journey, from new customer acquisition to customer retention. You will develop internal prototypes, bring them directly into production after successful testing, integrate different systems and data sources, and create the scalable technical foundation for our continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- →Process Analysis & Solution Design: Act as the primary partner for business departments (e.g., Marketing, Finance) and tech teams to identify operational bottlenecks. Your task is to translate complex business requirements into clear, implementable technical architectures and specifications.
- →System Integration & Workflow Development: Develop and implement complex, event-based automations. You will actively use existing internal APIs (to Kraken, our Data and Tech teams) and strategically integrate important third-party applications into our process landscape.
- →Pragmatic AI Integration: Evaluate and implement targeted use of LLMs and AI technologies to transform unstructured data (e.g., from documents) into usable formats for our core systems, creating real value.
- →End-to-End Ownership & Monitoring: Take full responsibility for the automation landscape you create, including designing robust error handling and continuously improving and monitoring our entire automation stack.
Requirements
- ✓Technical Expertise: A completed MINT degree or comparable technical qualification is desirable. You have a deep understanding of data models, APIs, and the architecture of complex process logics.
- ✓Hands-on Automation: Proven practical experience in designing and implementing workflows with workflow engines (e.g., n8n, Camunda, Airflow) or through solid scripting (Python, JavaScript).
- ✓AI Pragmatism: Experience in API-based integration of LLM technologies into operational processes. You understand the risks and implement reliable validation and security mechanisms.
- ✓End-to-End Ownership: You are accustomed to independently driving projects from the initial idea to a production-ready tool (Design from Zero to Production).
- ✓Problem Solving & Implementation: You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a clear "do-it" mentality. You actively seek solutions and are not afraid of implementation.
- ✓Stakeholder Communication: You can clearly argue technical decisions and effectively communicate with developers and business stakeholders. Fluent German and English language skills are mandatory.
