As Octopus has grown, so too has the complexity, variation and scale of our cost base.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>As such, we're looking for a curious, detail-driven Data Analyst with a strong understanding of finance and accounting to help us truly understand, validate, and control our cost base.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>This role sits right at the intersection of data, finance, and the wider business; giving you real ownership over how costs flow through the accounts and how they impact our reporting. You’ll work closely with our Finance and Gross Margin teams to build and maintain a robust cost accruals process, partner with other teams across the business to understand how costs arise in the real world, and turn that insight into scalable, automated processes. If you enjoy getting under the hood of complex data, improving controls, and building new processes and systems, this is a role where you can have a big impact.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the intersection of data and finance in an award winning team for a high growth business that is at the forefront of the net zero transition.</div> What You'll Do… • Become a subject matter expert in our cost base in the UK, including how these costs are validated and settled. Partner with teams across the business (e.g. Operations, Accounts payable and many others!) to understand how costs work and build this understanding into our validation and accrual process; • Work with Finance and Gross Margin teams to build a robust cost accrual model using SQL and dbt in order to reconcile and validate our cost base reporting, and identify, report and analyse any associated risks and opportunities on monthly basis; • Utilise SQL and Python to develop pipelines to automate the entry of invoices into Netsuite from external systems, and partner with teams across the business to build a process for invoice validation; • Work with our Global Retail teams to roll out cost validation solutions globally. What You'll Need… • Strong SQL and Excel experience; • Experience working in management accounts and an understanding of month end accounting, accruals and finance systems (e.g. Netsuite); • Highly data literate and numerate, with great attention to detail - you are able to make sense of lots of data, discover trends and patterns; • Experience with building dashboards (eg. in Databricks or Streamlit); • Great communicator - can clearly articulate complex technical information to non technical colleagues. Nice to have but not essential… • Fully or part qualified and actively studying towards an accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent); • Experience working in the energy industry, bonus if you have worked with settlement information before • Ability to code in Python; • Experience in modern data development, using modelling tools such as dbt, Lakehouses such as Databricks, and collaborative codebases such as git.
