Project Manager at Oxman

OXMAN is looking for a Project Manager to drive the planning, coordination, and execution of interdisciplinary research and design projects from proposal through demonstration and resolution. Based in Manhattan, OXMAN is a nature-based research and design company that incubates ventures and technologies reimagining the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Working across architecture, ecology, materials science, and computation, we develop nature-centric solutions to critical environmental challenges. In this role, you'll translate ambitious project visions into structured, executable plans—tracking milestones, managing budgets, coordinating across workstreams, and ensuring clear visibility for leadership—all while navigating the creative ambiguity that comes with R&D-driven work. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Translate approved project proposal materials into a clear, executable work plan with defined milestones, deliverables, budget band, risks, and demonstration criteria. - Build and maintain an up-to-date project plan aligned with the motivating question and defined demonstration objective. - Track progress against milestones and agreed success metrics (KPIs/OKRs), mapping observable progress to quarterly continuation decisions. - Prepare concise materials for weekly updates, monthly reviews, and leadership check-ins. - Coordinate across workstreams and external collaborators to manage sequencing and dependencies. - Identify gaps in scope, accountability, or execution early and propose corrective action. Surface risks promptly when scope, feasibility, or timeline shifts materially. - Track spend against approved budget bands in coordination with operations and finance. - Maintain clear, organized documentation to support demonstration, resolution, and final reporting. KEY GOALS & OUTCOMES - Clear visibility into progress, risks, and milestones. - Observable quarterly progress toward demonstration. - Reduced ambiguity around ownership and next steps. - Clean preparation for project resolution and documentation. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE - 5+ years of project management experience. - Experience managing scope, timelines, and budgets directly. - Comfort working in interdisciplinary or R&D environments. - Strong written and organizational skills. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE - Experience supporting interdisciplinary or R&D-driven projects. - Background in materials, textiles, fabrication, biotech, architecture, or design-led environments. - Experience preparing projects for formal review gates or milestone-based continuation decisions. - Experience working with external collaborators, labs, or fabrication partners. - Exposure to sustainability- or research-driven initiatives. - PMP or equivalent experience TECHNICAL SKILLS - Proficiency with project planning tools (Asana, Monday, MS Project, or similar). - Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills for budgeting and tracking. - Ability to structure documentation clearly and concisely. - Comfort working across shared digital systems (Drive, Notion, Slack, etc.). ESSENTIAL QUALITIES - Structured without being rigid. - Comfortable working in evolving or experimental environments. - Strong judgment about when to formalize and when to stay flexible. - Clear, direct communicator. - High ownership and follow-through. - Able to support strong creative leadership without duplicating authorship. - Calm under ambiguity and shifting constraints. NOTE: This is a fixed term, 18 month role that will be eligible for all company benefits and a completion bonus at the end of the term.
