Currently, PandaDoc is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our Document App Track. The Document App Track focuses on the core entity of PandaDoc — documents. We build the systems that allow users to create, import, process, and export documents at scale. In this team, we are tackling the challenge of building and maintaining mission-critical backend services that power PandaDoc document import and export (PDF, DOCX, and other formats). Our goal is to ensure high system reliability, streamline release processes, and maintain production service stability. We own several business-critical services and are responsible for making them robust, efficient, and scalable to support our company’s growth. Are you adaptable, driven, and friendly? In this role, you will: • Design, build, test, and deliver features to production as part of a 5-person team. • Keep production services stable (maintaining SLO), react to alerts and incidents. • Face and overcome multiple scale-related technical problems in distributed systems. • Find and address systematic issues to maintain low time-to-change with high change-confidence levels. • Work on integrating AI-powered features (e.g. automatic field detection), collaborating with dedicated AI teams. • Participate in team activities and rituals: code review, on-call rotation, planning, PBR, retro, daily standups, • Collaborate with the broader team (track level, consisting of 5 teams) Our stack: • Java 17/21 with Spring Boot 3 • PostgreSQL 17 as our primary database • Kafka for async communication patterns • Temporal for managing asynchronous workflows • JUnit and automated testing frameworks • Amazon Web Services • Docker, Kubernetes • Distributed monitoring stack (traces, logs, metrics) About you: • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer. • Experience working with production systems, including on-call responsibilities. • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot (Java 17/21, Spring Boot 3). • Solid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and asynchronous communication (Kafka). • Experience with relational databases (SQL, performance optimization), ideally PostgreSQL. • Good knowledge of testing practices (JUnit, automated testing). • Strong system design and problem-solving skills. • Experience across the full development lifecycle, from design to deployment and monitoring. • Ability to stay calm and effective during incident handling. • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in English (written and spoken).
