This role
As the Senior Director of Engineering β Consumer & Lock Platform, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for PayJoyβs direct-to-consumer mobile financial products, including Phone Finance, Credit Line, and future credit offerings. These applications are the primary interface between PayJoy and millions of customers worldwide β powering loan applications, device provisioning, payments, servicing, and ongoing credit engagement .
The Consumer organization owns the full-stack delivery of these products, including native Android and iOS native applications, web views, APIs, and backend services . The Consumer teams work closely with Product, Marketing, Risk, Lock, and Payments to ship high-quality financial experiences across multiple countries . These teams operate at meaningful scale and velocity and directly drive revenue, customer satisfaction, and credit expansion. The Consumer teams are centered in Mexico City, Mexico and Bogota, Colombia (with a few members in San Francisco).
In addition, you will oversee the Lock platform, which ensures our ability to create and service financial products for customer segments that other lenders cannot access. The Lock Platform must be broad (across diverse Android and iOS devices and markets) and deep (highly secure against tampering) . The Lock Platform is a critical technology for enabling PayJoy to lend ethically and profitably. The Lock teams are centered in San Francisco.
As Senior Director, you will define the multi-quarter engineering strategy, scale teams as new products and geographies launch, strengthen release and operational rigor, and ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and adaptable. You will operate as a senior partner to Product and company leadership, aligning engineering outcomes directly with business growth and customer impact.Β
This position is located in San Francisco, California (along with other senior Engineering management roles). It is a hybrid remote/office role (in-office three days per week).
Responsibilities
β’ Drive end-to-end delivery of high-quality features that power loan origination, payments, servicing, and new credit products
β’ Establish strong product engineering practices that balance experimentation, speed, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
β’ Partner closely with Product, Risk, Marketing, and Operations to deliver measurable business outcomes.
β’ Own multi-quarter roadmaps that scale PayJoyβs consumer financial products across countries and device ecosystems.
β’ Build and develop high-performing Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and senior engineers.
β’ Continuously evolve team structure as products, scale, and market complexity grow .
Qualifications
β’ Proven ability to deliver complex B2C mobile products end-to-end with measurable business impact.
β’ 10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leading multiple teams delivering consumer-facing digital product at scale.
β’ Experience owning production systems, operational excellence, and reliability practices .
β’ Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable operating in high-growth, fast-changing environments .
β’ Fintech experience is strongly preferred.
β’ Exposure to Android firmware, OEM integrations, or mobile device management is helpful but not required.
