About the Role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team at Phantom, a modern money app used by millions worldwide. This role focuses on designing and owning test infrastructure for financial-grade systems, ensuring quality as the primary output.

Key Responsibilities

→Design and implement a test automation platform for Money Movement, including end-to-end tests, API contract tests, and integration test suites
→Develop and maintain CI/CD quality gates that run on every PR and block regressions from reaching production
→Model real failure modes and build tests to catch them before users do
→Conduct performance and load testing to validate payment flows under peak load
→Own test data and environment infrastructure to ensure tests are repeatable, isolated, and fast
→Track test coverage, flakiness rates, bug escape rates, and regression detection latency

Requirements

✓Strong proficiency in at least one of: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go
✓Experience designing and building test frameworks from scratch
✓Deep familiarity with API testing, including REST, webhooks, idempotency, and retry behavior
✓Working knowledge of databases (SQL) and the ability to write test data seeding/cleanup logic
✓Experience testing payment flows, ledger systems, or compliance pipelines
✓Understanding of idempotency, double-spend prevention, and eventual consistency in distributed systems
✓Familiarity with webhook-based event systems and out-of-order delivery scenarios
✓Experience integrating test suites into CI pipelines
✓Ability to instrument tests for flakiness detection, coverage tracking, and runtime performance
✓Comfort operating in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP) and reading service logs/traces
✓Operational mindset with experience in incident post-mortems and understanding of canary deployments and feature flags
