Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Systems Programmer to support, maintain, and enhance our IBM z/OS mainframe environment. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, and tuning system software amd hardware to ensure high availability, performance, and security of mission critical systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with application development, operations, security, and infrastructure teams to support both production and non-production environments.
What you will do:
β’ Monitor system performance, and resource utilization, diagnose root cause, and remedy.
β’ Shared responsibility for maintaining the z/OS and JES2 software environment.
β’ Work with application programmers to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
β’ Provide guidance to application programmers where appropriate.
β’ Assist with the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of internal products.
β’ Develop/maintain/monitor proper system use and security policies and rules.
β’ Create, maintain, and upgrade operating system software for development environments.
β’ Analyze requirements and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for operating system software.
β’ Implement and verify backup and recovery procedures.
β’ Install new z/OS releases as they become available and configure to support Development environments.
β’ Keep supported systems current with the latest maintenance provided by IBM to Maintain system reliability and ensure availability.
β’ Be available after hours for emergencies or exceptional situations concerning the mainframe environment.
β’ Resolve any system-related problems that may arise in a timely and efficient manner.
What we are looking for most or all of:
β’ Minimum 7 years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer.
β’ Strong hands on experience with IBM z/OS in an enterprise environment.
β’ Deep understanding of JCL, DASDM, catalogs and VSAM.
β’ Understanding of Parallel Sysplex, Coupling Facilities, shared DASD, and related.
β’ Experience with SMP/E, system upgrades, and maintenance processes.
β’ Solid understanding of JES2, system libraries, and z/OS initialization and configuration.
β’ Solid understanding of the hardware and how it works, including DS8000, VTL, HMC, CSM.
β’ Experience with system IPLs and system recovery activities.
β’ Familiarity with mainframe security concepts and tools (e.g., RACF).
β’ Familiarity with other IBM strategic products such as z/VM, CICS, IMS, DB2.
β’ Ability to produce and review RMF and SMF-based reports.
β’ Knowledge of TCP/IP AT-TLS, encryption and certificates.
β’ Some programming experience in one of Assembler, Rexx, Python, C or PL/I would be favorable.
β’ Good understanding of USS, OMVS and bash-family scripting.
β’ Experience of cloud backups would be useful.
