ABOUT US
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we’re addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world.
The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we’ll map a new way forward. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Parallax Cloud team’s mission is to build a scalable, performant, globally distributed, zero‑downtime infrastructure and services platform for vehicle, mobile, and service communication in the cloud.
Build the core cloud platform that powers real-time, globally distributed communications for connected products. You’ll design, deliver, and operate high-scale services and tooling that enable low-latency, secure messaging, robust APIs, and end-to-end observability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, build, and operate core cloud services and platform capabilities for low‑latency, real‑time messaging and APIs across global environments.
- Own high‑throughput messaging infrastructure (e.g., NATS or similar): upgrades, performance validation, capacity planning, and deep observability (dashboards/alerts).
- Develop and maintain gRPC/Protobuf APIs and client integrations to simplify service-to-service and client-to-cloud communication with strong telemetry.
- Drive infrastructure automation and deployments using Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Crossplane/Terraform) across dev/stage/prod cells.
- Establish production‑grade Datadog dashboards and alerting; leverage Prometheus/Grafana where applicable for metrics and SLOs.
- Operate and tune API gateways / reverse proxies (e.g., NGINX/Envoy) for secure, reliable ingress and routing at scale.
- Manage PKI/certificate workflows and service identity for secure transport and authentication in multi‑environment deployments.
- Build and run E2E, scaling, and integration test pipelines to validate functionality, performance, and regressions before production rollout.
- Contribute to multi‑region resiliency, cost/performance optimizations, and evolving multi‑tenant support as the platform scales to new programs and brands.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building distributed systems, messaging/streaming platforms, or high‑scale backend services.
- Proficiency in one or more of: Go, Java, TypeScript, with strong fundamentals in concurrency, networking, and API design.
- Hands‑on experience operating production services with solid observability practices (metrics, logs, traces) and on‑call participation.
- Familiarity with AWS (Azure/GCP), Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Crossplane/Terraform).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high‑throughput messaging (e.g., NATS, Kafka, MQTT), gRPC/Protobuf, and multi‑region/multi‑tenant architectures.
- Prior work building Datadog dashboards/alerts and running performance validation at scale.
- Exposure to API gateways (NGINX/Envoy), PKI/certificate management, and secure transport/auth patterns.
