About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Lead Java Developer to join our Calypso DevSecOps team. Calypso is a large-scale capital markets system supporting trading, risk management, and processing of complex financial products. The team is responsible for development, maintenance, user support, and long-term technical evolution of the Calypso platform.
As a Lead Developer, you will take one of the key technical leadership roles in shaping solutions, ensuring architectural quality, and driving delivery across team and tribe boundaries. You will work closely with developers, business analysts, quality assurance, Scrum Master, Product Owner, architects, and other stakeholders across SEB in Riga, Stockholm, and other international locations.
You will operate in an Agile environment with a strong focus on system stability, security, maintainability, and continuous improvement. Beyond hands-on development, this role requires proactive decision-making, technical ownership, and contribution to SEB’s broader technology and architecture roadmap.
You will be responsible for
• Taking technical responsibility for design, development, and maintenance of complex IT solutions within the Calypso domain
• Building and evolving high‑complexity systems with clear, maintainable, and testable architecture (backend and frontend where applicable)
• Acting as a go-to technical expert within the team and at tribe / department level
• Ensuring alignment with architectural principles, secure development practices, and SEB technology standards
• Driving and contributing to technical roadmaps, architectural enablers, and long‑term solution evolution
• Actively participating in planning, PI activities, and follow‑ups to secure expected deliveries (quality, time, cost)
• Coaching and supporting developers, sharing best practices, and raising overall technical maturity of the team
• Proactively identifying improvement and automation opportunities related to solutions, delivery, IT security, and Ways of Working
• Collaborating closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into sustainable technical solutions
• Taking responsibility for own competence development and actively promoting modern tools, practices, and engineering excellence
To thrive in this role, we believe you have
• Extensive hands‑on experience as a senior Java developer or solution developer working with complex enterprise systems
• Proven ability to design, explain, and evolve detailed architecture across multiple systems
• Strong experience in CI/CD practices, modern development toolchains, and automated quality controls
• Experience acting as a technical leader in Agile teams, including guiding others and leading cross‑team initiatives
• Solid understanding of secure development principles, system stability, performance, and operational excellence
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, domains, and managerial levels, always with SEB’s best interest in mind
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum / SAFe) and participating in planning and large‑scale delivery cadences
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Fluency in English, as work execution and collaboration are international
• Interest in financial services and capital markets systems (prior experience is a strong advantage)

Monthly salary range indicated for this position is before tax deduction. The offer for final candidate* will depend on experience and competences of the candidate for the required job.
