About the Role As our first Director of People Operations, you will build and scale the People function from the ground up, owning everything from compensation strategy to multi-state compliance to employee experience. You'll manage both our corporate workforce (> 50 FTEs) and clinical workforce (>250 FTE, PTE & 1099 providers), designing tools and systems to support our entire organization. The ideal candidate has 7-10 years in people operations with 3+ years in a managerial capacity, including 2-3 years at a Series A/B digital health company with large PTE/FTE and contracted teams. You're a builder-operator who's equally comfortable designing leveling frameworks to building automation workflows in HR systems, with particular expertise in blended workforce models and multi-state compliance. What you'll do • Own multi-state HR compliance and entity management across 25+ states, including state registrations, foreign qualifications, and ongoing compliance monitoring • Partner with leadership on headcount planning, organizational design, and infrastructure development to support our scaling corporate and clinical workforces (W-2 and 1099) • Design and implement compensation strategy, leveling guides, performance frameworks, and total rewards programs across corporate and clinical workforces (FTE and PTE) • Manage payroll operations including reviewing bi-weekly payrolls, troubleshooting issues, processing corrections, managing complex off-cycle scenarios (leaves, terminations), and ensuring accuracy across all pay cycles • Oversee all HR systems, tools, and vendor relationships including Rippling, Lever, Checkr, 401k, and others • Manage benefits administration including enrollment, COBRA setup, carrier coordination, and benefits broker management • Oversee recruiting and onboarding processes for corporate teams, building scalable systems for hiring and new hire integration • Manage employee relations, performance issues, and workplace challenges with empathy and sound judgment; build culture and engagement initiatives including surveys and retention strategies • Own people ops budget and headcount planning; build analytics dashboards and partner with CEO, finance, legal, and clinical leadership on people strategy Who you are • You're a builder-operator who rolls up sleeves to resolve operational problems and build systems with an eye toward scalability • You're scrappy with strong bias toward action and good judgment on when to escalate vs. make decisions yourself • You have deep expertise navigating complex vendor relationships and can quickly diagnose and resolve system issues (payroll issues, benefits enrollment problems, HRIS glitches) • You bring empathy and emotional intelligence to support our employees & staff • You love to get into the numbers - comfortable building dashboards, analyzing retention data, and conducting compensation benchmarking • You're highly collaborative and enjoy problem solving with other leaders across operations, clinical, and finance teams • You're proactive about spotting issues before they become fires and have strong process improvement instincts • You default to transparency and bring problems forward early with solutions Must Haves • 7+ years in people operations with 3+ years in leadership roles • 2-3 years at a high growth Series A/B company • Digital health experience managing large PTE/FTE and contracted clinical teams • Familiarity with MSO/PC models and blended workforce compliance • Hands-on experience managing complex payroll operations, benefits administration, and multi-vendor HR ecosystems • Experience designing compensation and benefits across corporate and clinical workforces • Proven ability leading HR & compliance, handling employee relations, and building systems and tools from the ground up Details • Full-time; remote • The salary for this position is $150,000 • Meaningful equity package with significant upside potential Perks & Benefits • Competitive paid time off • Competitive parental leave policy • One-time stipend to enhance your work from home experience • Medical, dental, and vision insurance • 401K • Bereavement leave, including for miscarriage and pregnancy loss • Annual stipend for your choice of wellness benefits • Annual professional development stipend • Virtual team events Seven Starling is an equal opportunity employer, passionately committed to equitable hiring and boldly dedicated to diversity in our teams.
