OUR MISSIONΒ Β
SPAN IS ENABLING ELECTRIFICATION FOR ALL β‘
WE ARE A MISSION-DRIVEN COMPANY DESIGNING, BUILDING, AND DEPLOYING PRODUCTS THAT ELECTRIFY THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT, REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS, AND SLOW THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE.
- Decarbonization is the process to reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, from entering our atmosphere.
- Electrification is the process of replacing fossil fuel appliances that run on gas or oil with all-electric upgrades for a cleaner way to power our lives.
AT SPAN, WE BELIEVE IN:
- Enabling homes and vehicles powered by clean energy
- Making electrification upgrades possible
- Building more resilient homes with reliable backup
- Designing a flexible and distributed electrical grid
THE PROBLEM YOUβLL SOLVE
Our Integration Engineers are moving fast, generating high-level test plans to validate complex system interactions. However, a "rough" test plan isn't an automated one. We need a Senior Test Engineer who can step into that gapβsomeone who can take a conceptual test, refine it into a rigorous technical requirement, and then architect the path to a "low/no-touch" automated reality. You will be the force multiplier that turns manual lab validation into a scalable, repeatable, and automated firmware testing machine.
THE ROLE
As a Senior Test Engineer, you are the technical bridge between System Integration and Test Execution. Your mission is to take complex, high-level system requirements and translate them into a rigorous, automated testing strategy.
You aren't just running tests; you are designing the requirements for our automation and infrastructure teams. You will define the "what" and the "how," ensuring our HITL rigs and software frameworks are evolving to meet the needs of our product.
WHAT YOUβLL DO
- Define Test Strategy: Transform "rough" test plans from Integration Engineers into formal, airtight test requirements. You will be the primary gatekeeper for test quality and coverage.
- Direct Automation & Infrastructure: Act as the internal "customer" for our Automation and Rig-Build teams. You will design the specifications for new test scripts and physical rig modifications, ensuring they are built to support "low-touch" validation.
- Expert Traceability: Own the end-to-end lifecycle in Jira and Jama. Youβll ensure that every firmware requirement is mapped to a test case and that every failure is triaged with enough technical detail for firmware devs to act immediately.
- Test Orchestration & Framework Development Develop and maintain core test logic and architectural patterns. While you will have dedicated automation support, you will personally script complex, "first-of-a-kind" tests and design the framework extensions necessary to scale our testing capabilities.
- System Verification Expertly verify the critical intersection of software and hardware. You will execute system-level verification of new features, build and maintain robust regression test suites, and monitor the ongoing stability of our panel software ecosystem.

ABOUT YOUΒ
Required Qualifications
- Master of Tools: You are an expert-level user of Jira and Jama (or equivalent). You understand how to structure projects to ensure 100% test coverage and traceability.
- Test Script Power User: You are comfortable writing custom hooks, fixtures, and plugins in Python to enable sophisticated hardware testing.
- Effective Communicator: Since you will be collaborating with other teams (Automation/Rig-Build), you can write clear, unambiguous technical requirements that lead to successful execution.
- Hardware-Fluent: You understand the constraints of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) environment and know how to debug issues that could be firmware, electrical, or script-related.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Senior-level experience in Firmware, Embedded Systems, or Systems Test Engineering.
- Expertise in test scripting for hardware/system-level automation using tools like l.
- Advanced proficiency in Jama/Jira for requirements management and defect tracking.
- Experience defining requirements for HITL/SIL environments and custom test rigs.
- Strong understanding of communication protocols (CANbus, UART, Ethernet, etc.).
