Product Compliance Manager at Thuma

Thuma is seeking an experienced Product Compliance Manager to join our San Francisco Bay Area-based team, responsible for ensuring that Thuma products meet performance, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance standards across global markets. This role will validate material and product performance, define quality and durability expectations, manage third-party testing strategies, and support risk-based decision-making as Thuma expands into new product categories, materials, and constructions. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, sound judgment, and deep familiarity with home furnishings regulations across key markets, including the U.S. and Canada, and will act as a trusted partner to Product, Design, Sourcing, Legal, and Operations - able to clearly communicate complex topics, outline risks and tradeoffs, and guide teams toward informed, practical decisions while supporting training and alignment across internal and external partners. Product Compliance Manager will report to the Global Sourcing Director, and work in close partnership with internal Legal, Sourcing and Product teams, external Legal counsel, 3rd party labs, vendors and suppliers, government agencies and relevant industry groups. Thuma’s Headquarters is based in the historic Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. The role involves three days in the office each week and occasional additional days as needed. Key Responsibilities • Product Performance & Quality • Partner with the Product teams to define performance, durability, and quality standards for new and existing products • Develop and manage product and material performance validation strategies, including in-house and third-party testing • Evaluate product risk across new materials, constructions, suppliers, and categories, and recommend mitigation plans • Support design approval & pre-production readiness through performance and quality verification • Review test results and translate findings into clear recommendations for Design, Sourcing, and Leadership teams • Product Safety & Compliance • Ensure all products are developed and launched in compliance with regulatory requirements and best-in-class safety standards • Own and manage product safety compliance processes, including testing, certifications, documentation, records and audits • Maintain an up-to-date grasp of regulatory changes and landscape, best practices, and new developments impacting Thuma products • Develop and maintain compliance checklists and testing frameworks aligned to product category and market • Develop / review / analyze status, issues, risks and dependencies, facilitate discussions, suggest escalation actions when needed, and drive resolution • Manage state licensing applications and renewals • Serve as the liaison with Sourcing, Legal, outside counsel, third-party labs, regulatory agencies and industry groups to ensure global compliance • Supply Chain Enablement • Support Sourcing team in factory assessments, risk evaluations, and corrective action planning • Manage factory certification programs and compliance documentation • Ensure accurate, complete, and auditable supply chain records (test reports, GCCs, TSCA, MSDS, BOMs, etc.) This Might Describe You • 6+ years in product integrity, compliance, quality or performance testing, ideally within home furnishings or consumer products • Strong understanding of materials, constructions, and testing methods • Experience working with third-party testing labs and interpreting technical results • Comfortable balancing regulatory rigor with practical product development constraints • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects • Excellent communicator, especially with cross-functional and international partners • Sound judgement and comfortable making recommendations under ambiguity • Culturally aware and experienced working with global partners • Able to learn, be flexible, adapt to change, and grow with the organization • Willingness to travel Why Join Us  Equity/401k: Participation in employee stock option plan and our 401k program where we will match up to 6% of your contributions Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental + vision coverage options with generous employer contributions  Extras: 12 weeks of paid parental leave and company sponsored membership at One Medical Dream Setup: Apple Laptop, Airpod Pros, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard Flex Time: Run errands as needed, just get your stuff done Flexible PTO: We believe healthy, happy, relaxed people do better work Hybrid: Flexibility to work between your home and our office with everything you need to be successful in both Employee Discount: We provide an employee discount of 40% off all Thuma products Cell Phone Stipend: $100 per month to recognize that you will use your cell phone for work related things Commute Reimbursement: Up to $150 per month for your commute to our office Room Upgrade: A complimentary product credit when you start, worth up to $2,000 Who We Are Thuma is a modern design company specializing in furniture and home goods.
