YOUR MISSION:
As the SIPP Technical Lead, you are responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of Upvestβs SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) proposition.
You will act as the primary authority on UK pension legislation, bridging the gap between complex regulatory requirements, our operational processes, and our scalable investment API. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure our SIPP infrastructure remains robust, compliant, and market-leading, enabling Upvest to scale its financial infrastructure to millions of end-users while maintaining the highest levels of integrity and trust with regulators, clients, and partners.
What youβll do:
- Lead regulatory oversight: Stay abreast of developments from the FCA, DWP, and HMRC, assessing their impact on Upvestβs SIPP offerings.
- Solve complex technical queries: Act as the escalation point for technical referrals from our clients, ensuring clear resolution of complex pension cases
- Drive product compliance: Work with internal stakeholders to analyse legislative changes especially with regards to Pensions Dashboard, and support the implementation of required updates to procedures and training notes.
- Enhance governance: Identify emerging risks within the SIPP market and support the delivery of strong governance solutions to mitigate poor customer outcomes.
- Coach and develop: Deliver technical training to staff, proactively contributing to the development of training materials to raise the "pension IQ" across the organisation.
- Manage external relationships: Serve as a key technical point of contact for external partners and professional financial advice firms when required. Act as a representative of Upvest at industry events.
What you'll bring:
- Deep Pension Expertise: Thorough knowledge of HMRC and FCA rules as they apply specifically to SIPPs and the wider UK pensions market.
- Regulatory Analysis Skills: Proven experience in analysing legislative changes and translating them into clear, actionable operational procedures.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Experience in handling complex SIPP technical issues and resolving technical queries in a fast-paced environment.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication of technical requirements to internal and external stakeholders , including engineering and product teams.
- Self-Starter Mentality: A highly organised approach with the ability to work independently, prioritise appropriately, and thrive under pressure.
- Qualifications (Desirable): Relevant industry certifications such as DipPFS, APMI, or equivalent professional pension qualifications.
Why Upvest?
- We're working on solving a hard problem: fixing the securities financial infrastructure to empower more people to be able to invest. You have the opportunity to contribute to this change.
- We invest in you. From access to a personal coach, development budget and plenty of opportunities to grow in your role.
- We take hiring seriously with a strong focus on keeping a high bar when interviewing (equally important is that we hire decent people, who are passionate about their craft and helping us achieve our shared mission).
- While we're not quite fully-remote, we are committed to being a flexible employer, as we understand you don't have to be in the office to do your best work.
- We live in a culture of empowerment, trust (that we hire the best people and get out of their way) and openness (there's a greater advantage in sharing information than keeping it to ourselves).
HOW WE UPVEST IN YOU:
