We are seeking a creative, fast, and detail-oriented Video Editor to edit mostly short-form video for social platforms at the pace of a digital newsroom.
WHO WE ARE
The Editorial team is at the core of everything New York Magazine does. Our six verticals and award-winning magazine strike the perfect balance of content thatβs smart and funny so that our readers know everything they need to navigate urban life and the fast-moving culture, whether thatβs politics, culture, food, shopping, or style trends. Editors aim to create stories and magazine events that are sharp, provocative, memorable, useful, and, at turns, both playful and serious.

β’ Edit short- and midform videos for New York Magazineβs social platforms, including its six verticals, Intelligencer, Vulture, The Cut, Curbed, Grub Street, and The Strategist.
β’ Collaborate with social editors/producers and designers to shape stories, and define visual tone, pacing, and rhythm.
β’ Create motion graphics, sound design, and color correction as needed.
β’ Ensure consistency with editorial and brand standards.
β’ Add structure to our media management: create production templates, naming conventions, file-delivery standards, and backups.
β’ Produce or support production of video projects or assignments as needed, including pitching concepts and shooting.
β’ Cover live events as needed and quickly turn around edits for live social publishing.
β’ Stay on top of video trends and emerging editing styles that align with our voice.
WHO YOU ARE
β’ 4+ years of professional video editing experience (editorial, digital media, or agency)
β’ Expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects. Proficiency in motion design, Photoshop, and Figma preferred.
β’ A sharp editorial eye and an instinct for pacing, tone, humor, and narrative clarity.
β’ Experience editing across multiple aspect ratios and formats.
β’ Knowledge of rights management, captioning, and publishing workflows.
β’ Familiarity with codecs, transcodes, deliverables, metadata, and media asset management best practices.
β’ A love for New York Magazineβs storytelling sensibility β and the ability to translate it visually.
β’ Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment while delivering against tight deadlines.
β’ Ability to work across different brands and on different platforms.
β’ Strong storytelling capabilities.
β’ An understanding that social video changes rapidly.
β’ You should have a strong grasp of the social landscape, its various platforms and audiences, and constantly evolving trends.
