The main responsibilities of the position include:
• Sets in close cooperation with the Platform Engineer - Team Leader the targets & KPIs of the department in line with the Corporate Targets
• Develops and plans specific actions on how to achieve the targets and KPIs decided on
• Provides technical mentorship and guidance to engineers while conducting rigorous code and configuration reviews to ensure high-quality delivery across the team Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform
• Defines engineering standards, best practices, and operating models for edge delivery and public-facing applications
• Designs and performs configurations in Akamai Ion property, including custom behaviours, rules, caching strategies, redirects/rewrites, compression, and origin definitions
• Designs and implements Akamai Global Traffic Management (GTM) GTM) and Edge DNS strategies to ensure high availability and intelligent load distribution across the globe
• Leads Akamai driven delivery optimisation to enhance performance, availability, and resilience at the Akamai Eedge
• Proactively analyses Cache Hit Ratios and adjusts strategies to maximise Akamai Eedge efficiency and reduce origin egress costs
• Designs multi-origin and failover patterns, origin shielding, and traffic management strategies
• Drives the end-to-end request flow, from architectural design to the customisation, configuration, and deep-level troubleshooting of Akamai delivery patterns
• Ensures correct handling of Transport Layer Security (TLS), headers, client IP forwarding, authentication, and response behaviours across the full delivery chain
• Manages the implementation of alignment with modern TLS and security protocols, ensuring all configurations meet current industry standards
• Partners with Software Developers to onboard new public-facing services efficiently and safely
• Drives Domain Name System (DNS) architecture and operations, including CNAMEs, routing strategies, Time to Live (TTL) management, cutovers, and troubleshooting
• Manages the full certificate lifecycle (issuance, validation, renewal, rotation) using Akamai-managed or external certificate authorities
• Introduces and standardises testing practices for applicationAkamai property delivery and configurations delivery and edge configurations, including pre-deployment validation, configuration testing, and change impact analysis
• Drives adoption of automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for Akamai, Domain Naming System (DNS), and delivery workflows
• Implements and monitors Akamai mPulse and DataStream 2 to correlate edge performance with real-user experience and provide visibility to stakeholders
• Identifies and implements AI-assisted tools to support configuration analysis, incident investigation, root cause analysis, and operational insights
• Serves as the lead technical contact for Akamai by managing support escalations and performance feature reviews, while guiding the transition from manual operations to repeatable and intelligent self-service delivery models
• Monitors and reports on system and Content Delivery Network (CDN) health, including Availability, Latency, and Offload %, to senior management, while leading efforts in performance tuning and availability improvements
• Defines SLIs/SLOsService Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for Akamai Eedge delivery and origin connectivity
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and elevate team capabilities
• Works closely with the InfoSecormation Security department, ensuring that the infrastructure effectively supports their security policies (WAF/Bot Manager) without degrading performance
• Establishes monitoring, alerting, and reporting for latency, errors, cache efficiency, and availability
• Participates in incident response and post-incident reviews, driving continuous improvement
• Sets personal targets for team members and monitors performance
• Provides regular feedback to team members and works with them on how to act upon it
• Recognises development needs, coaches, and develops team members as necessary
• Encourages team members to express ideas on improving individual and team performance
• Shares knowledge and experience with team members and encourages them to do the same
• Makes conscious efforts to keep team members motivated
• Participates in a 24/7 on-call to provide support for IT related incidents and urgent operational requirements
• Offers services related to the above tasks and projects to any of the Companies of the Group as instructed by the Line Manager
Main requirements:
• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or similar discipline​​
• ​​​​7​​​​​​​+ years of experience in ​​DevOps, Platform Engineering,​​​ with at least 3-5 years of experience managing and architecting solutions on the Akamai platform, with a deep focus on Akamai Ion property configuration and advanced rule management​
• Deep understanding of ​​DNS​​ and ​​TLS / certificate lifecycle management​​ for public-facing applications
• ​​​Experience with content delivery networks, such as Akamai and/or CDN​​
• Solid experience delivering and operating ​​internet-facing applications end-to-end​
• ​​​​Solid ​​​​experience working in ​​cloud environments​​ (AWS preferred)​​
• ​DevOps mindset with experience in automation, CI/CD, and operational ownership​
• Proven experience in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Ion properties within a live production environment​
• ​Strong understanding of HTTP/S, caching, headers, redirects, compression, and origin behaviour
• Ability to design,​ ​and troubleshoot full request flows from the client through Akamai Edge to cloud or on-premises origins
• ​Hands on experience with public DNS management, domain cutovers, certificate issuance, renewal, rotation, and TLS troubleshooting
• Expertise in ​CI/CD, ​IaC​​​, scripting, and ​creating ​repeatable delivery patterns
• Experience introducing and implementing testing and validation practices for edge configurations and delivery changes
• Practical experience using AI-assisted tools to support testing, troubleshooting, incident analysis, and operational efficiency
• ​Strong experience in incident response, root cause analysis, and risk-aware change management
• Proven ability to work effectively across departments, acting as a bridge between technical execution and leadership stakeholders to ensure platform alignment with business goals
• ​​​High attention to detail and strong organisational skills​​​​, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standard​
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation for both engineering teams and senior leadership
• Excellent written and verbal skills in English
