About the Role We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Developer to join our healthcare team at Cigna Healthcare. This role focuses on developing and maintaining enterprise backend applications using Java and Spring Boot. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise backend applications using Java and Spring Boot • Build scalable microservices and RESTful APIs to support healthcare applications and business systems • Develop backend integrations supporting healthcare workflows such as claims processing, eligibility, enrollment, and provider management • Work with databases and messaging platforms to ensure data integrity, reliability, and application performance • Collaborate with architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and healthcare business stakeholders • Perform code reviews, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization • Implement unit testing, integration testing, and secure coding practices • Ensure applications follow healthcare data privacy, security, and HIPAA compliance requirements Requirements • 10+ years of hands-on Java backend development experience • Strong knowledge of Java 8/11/17+, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and Microservices architecture • Experience with REST APIs, SQL databases, Kafka, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure • Familiarity with Git, Maven/Gradle, JUnit, Mockito, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines • Mandatory experience developing applications for healthcare organizations, health insurance companies, or healthcare platforms • Understanding of healthcare workflows, HIPAA compliance, PHI protection, and healthcare data security • Knowledge of HL7, FHIR, and EDI transactions (834, 837, 835) is highly preferred
