About the Role My client is looking for a hands-on Principal Kafka Engineer to drive the design and administration of their high-availability ecosystem in Cincinnati. Key Responsibilities • Lead Cluster Management: Drive the design, deployment, and administration of enterprise-scale Apache Kafka & Confluent Platform clusters. • Architect Solutions: Optimize Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, Avro, and KSQL/ksqlDB. • Build & Automate: Develop distributed microservices using Java and Spring Boot. • Scale Infrastructure: Manage ZooKeeper/KRaft transitions, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes. • Ensure Performance: Champion production tuning, observability, low-latency, and high availability. Requirements • 10+ years in Software Development or Systems Engineering. • 5+ years of dedicated, hands-on Kafka/Confluent administration. • Strong proficiency in Java and distributed microservices architecture. • Deep experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code.
