About the Role We are looking for an experienced Kong Developer to join an exciting API integration and management project in Dubai, UAE. This role involves designing, configuring, and managing Kong Gateway services, developing custom plugins, and ensuring API security. Key Responsibilities • Design, configure, and manage Kong Gateway services, routes, upstreams, consumers, and workspaces. • Develop and maintain Kong plugins for authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and request/response transformations. • Build custom Kong plugins using Lua, with Go or JavaScript where required. • Manage API onboarding, versioning, lifecycle, documentation, and developer portals. • Implement configuration-as-code using decK and integrate with CI/CD pipelines. • Deploy, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Kong on Kubernetes, Docker, and virtual machines. • Integrate Kong with identity providers such as Keycloak, Azure AD, and Okta. • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance optimization. • Troubleshoot production issues, lead incident resolution, and perform root cause analysis. • Provide on-call support for critical and high-priority incidents. Requirements • 5–8 years of experience in API development or integration. • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Kong Gateway. • Strong knowledge of Kong Enterprise or Konnect, control plane/data plane architecture, hybrid mode, DB-less, and database-backed deployments. • Experience in Kong plugins and custom plugin development using Lua. • Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, TLS/mTLS, OAuth2, OIDC, and JWT. • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, decK, Git, and CI/CD pipelines. • Scripting knowledge in Bash, Python, or similar languages. • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to work independently in a remote, client-facing environment and communicate effectively with UAE stakeholders.
