About the Role We are seeking a hands-on Senior Optical Network Engineer for a critical infrastructure opportunity with Con Edison. This is a specialized role focused on optical/DWDM telecom and field engineering. Key Responsibilities • Designing and engineering CCTN DWDM and optical transport networks, including fiber and equipment layout/design • Developing Statements of Work (SOWs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), and project schedules • Establishing wavelength plans, optical power budgets, and loss budgets • Performing physical field installations, system commissioning, and network turn-ups • Conducting rigorous fiber testing and troubleshooting, including OTDR, BERT, and optical power testing • Working hands-on at substations and field sites to physically connect and test fiber/equipment • Coordinating with vendors and field teams, supporting emergency restorations, and handling occasional after-hours/on-call work Requirements • Core expertise in optical networking, DWDM, optical transport, and outside-plant fiber • Hands-on field skills in optical network design, engineering plans, and field implementation (splicing/connecting fiber, running tests, commissioning) • Technical background across telecom engineering, SONET/TDM, Ethernet/MPLS, microwave/RF, and utility telecommunications / critical infrastructure (SCADA / EMS / RTU / OT environments) • Familiarity with Cisco ONS 15454, CTP, and EPNM tools • Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and willingness to travel for field/emergency work
