About the Role We are looking for a PL/I Lead Developer to join an exciting enterprise technology engagement in New Zealand. This role requires maintaining mission-critical systems while leading technology transformation. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop and modernize complex enterprise applications • Review technical designs and conduct code reviews • Guide complex implementation decisions • Troubleshoot, analyze root causes, debug and tune performance • Mentor experienced developers with a hands-on approach • Work across online, batch and integration processing Requirements • 20+ years of relevant mainframe application experience preferred • Extensive commercial PL/I design and development expertise • Deep hands-on experience with IBM mainframe PL/I applications • Strong expertise in VSAM — file structures, access patterns, concurrency, performance and data integrity • Practical knowledge of IBM MQ — messaging, application integration, exception handling and diagnostics • Advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, debugging and performance-tuning capabilities • Experience reviewing technical designs and conducting code reviews • Strong technical leadership skills Benefits • Opportunity to work on mission-critical systems • Hands-on design, complex development and technical assurance • Engineering leadership role
