ASL Interpreter Job

#MCDHH Seeks Trainer(s) with ASL/English fluency who is/are experts in the field of interrelational communications, focusing on navigating essential and/or challenging conversations. MCDHH seeks trainer/s who is/are fluent in ASL (Deaf, CODA, hearing) to provide a comprehensive communications skills building training for ASL/English and Deaf interpreters, both freelance and staff.

This workshop will be the first in a series of trainings MCDHH is offering on high-profile and press conference work.

This 3 day training will be held onsite in MA, on 3/27-29, 2026 (Fri-Sat, 9am – 5pm; Sun, 9am – 4pm). Location TBA. Presenters do not need to be interpreters but must be able to demonstrate expertise in dynamics of interpreter practices, protocols, and interrelationships.

High profile interpreting work includes but is not limited to press conferences, conferences both public and private, large statewide events, and televised/live streamed legislative events.

The goal of this workshop is for all participants to learn how to communicate effectively in highly charged situations with respect for all.

Qualified applicants’ proposals should include how they will address and/or incorporate the following elements during this interactive training session (or include alternative approaches with an explanation of how those would be equally effective):

- Mastery of Communication Techniques - Mindfulness/Non-violent Communication in diverse communities - Navigating essential and/or difficult conversations - Building Bridges in diverse communities - Giving and receiving feedback that is constructive, respectful, inclusive, and supportive of learning and growth - The science of successful adult learning as explained in books Make It Stick or other comparable adult learning materials, as well as how to accommodate linguistic, generational learning and cultural differences.

Required qualifications: - Evidence of previous workshops in which the applicants addressed issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the framework of trainings similar in topic to “Navigating Difficult and/or Challenging Conversations” - Documentation of state/national qualifications in communications, counseling, mediation, conflict resolution, nonviolent communication, cross-cultural communication or other related field (e.g.: MA/MS degree, licensure, certification, etc.) - Availability to provide this workshop in person at the end of March 2026 in Massachusetts. - Evidence of a working knowledge of/expertise in the interpreting field (applicants do not have to be interpreters) - Native or near-native fluency in ASL
